A door opens, motion is detected, glass breaks, or smoke is sensed. Your IQ Panel 5 detects the event instantly — typically within 1 second of the trigger.

Cellular Signal Sent

The alarm signal travels over a dedicated cellular connection — completely independent of your WiFi and internet. Even if someone cuts your cable or your power goes out, the signal still reaches the monitoring center. Battery backup keeps the panel running for up to 24 hours without power.

Within seconds, Brinks Home’s monitoring center — staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year — receives the alarm. A live operator immediately reviews the alert and your account information.

Operator Contacts You

The operator attempts to reach you at your primary number. If you confirm it’s a false alarm, they stand down. If they can’t reach you, or if you confirm it’s real, they move immediately to dispatch.

What happens if I trigger a false alarm?

The Brinks Home operator will call your primary contact number. If you answer and provide your verbal password, the alarm is cancelled immediately and no services are dispatched. If you don’t answer, they’ll try your secondary contacts before dispatching. You can also cancel directly from the Alarm.com app.

Does my homeowner insurance give a discount for monitored security?

Most do — typically 5–20% off your premium. Ask your insurance provider for their requirements. Brinks Home can provide a certificate of monitoring that most insurers accept. Many ProTECHt customers find the discount partially or fully offsets their monthly monitoring cost.

What if the power goes out?

Your IQ Panel 5 has a built-in battery backup that keeps it running for up to 24 hours without power. Because the signal travels over cellular rather than your home internet, monitoring continues normally even during a power outage.

Can I monitor my own system without professional monitoring?

Yes — ProTECHt offers a self-monitoring plan where you receive all alerts directly on the Alarm.com app and decide whether to call for help yourself. This is a lower-cost option, though it means no one is watching your home when your phone is off or unavailable.
